Some of the difficulties or special educational needs that we focus on are:

Dislexia

People with dyslexia often have trouble reading fluently. They often read slowly and make mistakes, which affects their comprehension. But when other people read to them, they often have no problem understanding the text.

Dyslexia can also lead to difficulties with other skills.

These include:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Orthography
  • Writing
  • Math

ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood.

It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often persists into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention,
control impulsive behaviors (they may act without thinking about what the result will be) or be overly active.

Dyscalculia

There are different terms for dyscalculia. Mathematics learning disability is one. Math learning disorder is another. Some people call it math dyslexia or number dyslexia. This can be misleading. Dyslexia is a challenge with reading. Dyscalculia is challenging with math.

People don’t outgrow dyscalculia. Children who struggle with math may continue to struggle as adults. But there are strategies that can help improve your math skills and handle challenges.

Difficulties with Working Memory

Working memory, which is critical to executive functioning, is where short-term information needed to complete a task is stored.

Difficulties with Executive Functions

Executive function skills allow us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and manage multiple tasks. Up to 90 percent of children with ADHD struggle with executive dysfunction, which affects behavior aimed at completing tasks.
Executive dysfunction is a term used to describe the range of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional difficulties that often occur as a result of another disorder or traumatic brain injury. People with executive dysfunction struggle with planning, problem solving,
organization and time management.

Children and adults with executive functioning issues struggle to organize materials, regulate emotions, set schedules, and get things done. They misplace papers, reports and other school materials.
They may have similar problems keeping track of their personal items or keeping their bedroom organized.

Learning difficulty in reading and writing

When we talk about learning difficulties in reading and writing, we refer to a group of criteria that occur in a person for at least six months, and that influence their school performance quite significantly. These difficulties should not be explained by other causes: intellectual disability,
vision and hearing disorders… This is important and we need to properly evaluate what is happening and why we have these difficulties.

Such as:

  • He reads imprecisely, very slowly and has a hard time. He guesses words instead of reading them and has trouble expressing them well. Read wrong and very slowly.
  • It is difficult for him to understand the meaning of what he reads.
  • It has many misspellings and adds, omits or substitutes some letters for others.
  • It is difficult for him to write: grammar errors, punctuation.
  • Does not express ideas clearly or texts do not make sense.
